Amorphophallus

Tuberous rooted plants with huge leaves on an attractive leaf stem. Common names include 'Snakes Palm' or

'Devils Tongue'.

Bulbifer

This variety has a large pink spathe and looks great great in the border for its leaves. It does however have a foul smell. Probably not too hardy.

Arisaema

These are plants of the aroid family, tuberous rooted. These plants will grow well in shaded areas and generally speaking are hardy in England.

 

Candidissimum

These are hardy. The flowers are white with a hint of pink. Flowers July and grows to a height of about 12".

Griffithi

A very unusual and striking plant. Flowering April-May with a height of about 12".

Pangii

The shoots are mottled like snake skin.

A light brown spathe lined in white is followed by very shiny green leaves.

Flowers April-June and grows to a height of about 12".

Speciosum

Needs protection from frost.

The flowers are a purple pinkish violet with white.

Flowers May-June and grows to a height of about 15".

Tortuosum

A green spathe on a very majestic looking plant. Usually grows to about

3-4ft, but has been known to achieve around 6ft in some cases.

Flowers July. A very robust plant.

Nepenthoides

A brownish-red spathe with white stripes.

Flowering May-June and reaching a height of about 15-18".

Sikokianum

A pure white spadix, surrounded by a deep purple spathe which is marked with narrow green bands.

Flowers May-June and grows to a height of 8-15".

A very hardy plant.

Triphyllum

The spathe is green outside, striped with purple-brown lines inside.

Sometimes known as 'Jack-in -the-Pulpit'.

Flowering June-July and growing to a height of 8-15".

Cardiocrinum

These plants are from Eastern Asia. After flowering, the bulbs die leaving behind a number of small bulblets which grow on and flower in about 3 to 4 years. These plants normally grow at the edge of woodland. Once established they grow quite easily. The soil needs to be a very rich mixture of manure, leaf mould with a little sand. Plant 3-4ft apart.

Giganteum

Pure white with a deep red throat. Enormous heart shaped leaves up to 18" long with flowers up to 8". Height 5-10ft.

A very majestic plant.

Curcuma

These are an interesting group of plants from Asia. One of the varieties is used to produce turmeric.

Zeodaria

Pale mauve flowers on an erect stem. Sometimes known as 'The Tulip of Thailand.'

A very attractive plant.

Tacca Integrifolia

There are about 60 species of Tacca, most of which originate in Southeast Asia. Commonly known as the Bat Lily.

Niveum

Sometimes called 'cats whiskers'. Water sparingly in the winter months increasing slowly as the plant starts to grow. Flowers July-August, reaching a height of 2-3ft.

Cristata

Sometimes called the Black Lily. This one of  the few black flowering plants in the world. To grow successfully in the garden it requires shade and ample moisture in a well drained soil.

Victoria Amazonica

The famous Brazilian giant water lily. In the wild the leaves can grow up to a metre or more in diameter, large enough to support an adult. The huge fragrant flowers are white when they open at dusk, turning pink as they age.

You will rarely have the chance to obtain seeds of this variety, but we have a limited number in stock at the moment.
